Snowy Egret and Black-Crowned Night Heron

Calling Adam R. Paul… who is snowy’s friend? Hah! I visited Adam’s site and checked his extensive gallery and found him right away! It’s a Black-Crowned Night Heron. Thanks Adam! His site is a MUST SEE for birders. His bird gallery alone has 1178 photos!!!! And they’re all named and categorized according to the ABA checklist. *I’m not worthy!*

  1. Thanks for the plug, Jayleen, but you are worthy 🙂 I often see Snowy Egrets & Black-crowned Night-Herons together, especially in areas where they nest. Up here in Palo Alto, there’s a large rookery with dozens-to-hundreds of nesting Snowys & BCNH, along with a few Great Egrets for good measure. Like the photos!

  2. I’ve only seen blue herons here up until that day. And that day we had a very minus tide and there were 3 Snowys, 2 Blue Herons and 2 BCNHs. And then a pair of Aleutian Geese landed in the water in front of me. And otters swam past. I got photos of them eating some fish, but it’s not that pleasant to look at so I decided not to post them. lol

Oh, and I had never seen a BCNH before.

  3. Aww you should post the otters – they’re so cute and sharp-toothed! 🙂
